Pine nuts from Afghanistan

There are only a few varieties of pine trees from which pine nuts can be produced. The Jalghoza Pine Earns from Afghanistan originate from the naturally growing pine trees in the Hindu Kush Mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The balls are collected by families who shake them over fire to make the balls open, so the thick darkness can be removed and the seeds collected. It is laborious and manual work.

In Afghanistan we work with the company Setara Dry Fruits and Nuts Processing, which ensures employment for primarily women at the factory in Kabul. The pine nuts therefore make an important contribution to income and jobs in Afghanistan.

The Jalghoza Pine nuts from Afghanistan are rarely found in Europe. They are extra large, very flavorful and melt in the mouth with a butter and flowery flavor. They are good for pesto, salads, cakes or as snacks.
