It is genuine world news! We can now offer compostable & organic coffee capsules from DR Congo ! Enjoy a thoroughly sustainable cup of coffee.
The coffee is arabica coffee, rounded and dark. The capsules are compatible with Nespresso® machines, but can be composted afterwards.
And the coffee can be suitably enjoyed with one of our other novelties: Super delicious chocolate-covered peanuts.
In addition, we have also filled the warehouse with the other quality products from Virunga Origins: The five tasty chocolates, vanilla, cocoa nibs, chia seeds and coffee in whole beans - products that have now also been certified organic.
It has been a unique achievement that the employees at Virunga Origins have succeeded in producing the goods and getting them to Europe.
The war surrounding the factory and the nature park in eastern DR Congo has become very violent in recent months as the rebel movement M23 has advanced. For a period, all employees had to be evacuated. All border crossings have been closed. In Goma there are over 2 million refugees.
But despite all that, they got the goods out and on Thursday we were very happy to receive them.
It is truly a small light in the midst of darkness and war.
The goods create both work and income for the local population and contribute to protecting the unique Virunga National Park.
