If this continues, we will become shadows.
Each glass and candlestick is a small work of art. They are also a symbol of the women's fight in Afghanistan for equal rights and opportunities. And they are perfect as Christmas gifts.
29-year-old Shiringul has dedicated her life to helping women become independent in Afghanistan. She runs the workshop in Herat and recruits female artists who can earn money from their craft.
Last week, Dagbladet Information published an article with Shiringul and one of the other artists, describing the bleak everyday life they have had under the Taliban. As she puts it: "If it continues like this, we will become shadows."
In three years, the Taliban has issued over 70 guidelines and edicts for women.
But the article also describes their fighting spirit and willpower. For the production of glass and candlesticks constitutes a crucial source of income for the women. The workshop has become a sanctuary where they can show their faces and speak freely. And art is their way of expressing themselves. As Hamida says in the article: "I have always been a quiet person, so I channel my emotions and express myself through my paintings."
We import the glasses and candlesticks together with our good colleagues in the East , who have been instrumental in starting the workshop in Herat.
I hope you can use them as Christmas gifts.
Thank you for trading for peace.
Kind regards,
