They must not be seen or heard
They must not be seen. They must not be heard. Women's faces and women's voices has been banned in public space. The Taliban have introduced new and even tougher restrictions on Afghanistan's women.
But they don't give up. Afghan women post daily videos on social media under the hashtag #minstemmeerikkeskamfuld, where they sing about the fight for freedom and women's rights.
And they stubbornly continue to work in the companies we do business with in Afghanistan. With Ziba Foods in Kabul, which sorts and packs our almonds and dried fruits, they have invested in new clothing and in a minibus that drives around and picks up the women in the morning. In Herat, where we buy the beautiful candlesticks and glass, the women now work from home with the help of a local female production manager and Danish Austria . They are in the process of renting a workshop so they can work together.
The Afghan women do not give up.
Hope you will continue to do business with them and ensure they can maintain a job and an income.
Thank you for trading for peace.
